CrossFit and the Travelling Man

As I write this, I am currently sitting poolside with a mojito within arm's reach. Whether it is for business or pleasure, we often find ourselves making some bad food choices on the road, or just letting it all out on holiday. In the end, it sometimes feels like months and months of working out and eating clean have been undone in just a week of travel. What was eating clean and Wodding 5 times a week for 6 months all for? Why not just throw the towel in?
Believe me, everyone goes through this emotional roller coaster ride. The suspense comes back around and builds as you teeter over the top, when you decide to try and get back to working out. You know coming back to the Box is going to hurt!

So why not make sure this doesn't happen every time you leave and come back? There are approximately over 10,000 CrossFit gyms around the world. and unless you decide to travel to Timbuktu, there is no real excuse for not working out and dropping in on one of these boxes. Most boxes are open to drop-ins and welcome the travelling cross fitter with open arms. It is also a great way to see other communities and coaches at work. All you need are your Nanos or Metcons and a google search for the nearest CrossFit box and some cash. Make sure to buy a t-shirt while you're at it and make those box owners happy.

No CrossFit box anywhere around? There were gyms before CrossFit and there are still gyms around with weights and classes. Maybe do something different and just enjoy a workout whether it is a spin class, yoga or bootcamp. Not feeling the whole class setting? Well, there is still your old school weights area. Just make sure you find a more secluded area before you start doing burpees, handstand push-ups and cleans in your programming, unless you want people looking at you strangely. ;-P Oh, and make sure that you don't drop your weights like you would in a box unless you want to get kicked out.

At the very least, most hotels will have a gym. All you need to do is get up and go. If you are ever feeling stuck as to what you should do for the workout, you can always follow along with wodify and do the workout remotely. Alternatively, there are sites that have great WOD suggestions. Here are some sites to name a few;

At the end of the day, the idea is to make sure that coming back to routine is not such a daunting task. Rest and recovery during a holiday does wonders to your body and keeps you sane and loving life, but adding a workout or two will not only keep you fit and happy, it will also make your first day back in the box and the succeeding DOMS the next few days a lot more bearable.
